The International Standards Specialist is responsible for activities related to the development of standards for UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) international engagement program in Mexico. The International Standards Specialist will promote safety and sustainability by supporting policy and standards harmonization, partnering with key standards developers, policymakers and industry leaders, and facilitate the use of UL standards within these regions.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Participates in development of ULSE engagement strategy and objectives for the region.
  • Supports UL Standards collaboration MOU program. Involved in ongoing communications to strengthen relationships with ULSE partners in the region including national standards bodies, standards developing organizations, regulators, policy makers and key industry associations.
  • Manages regional engagement projects independently with ULSE partners in the region, including organizing of events for capacity building, knowledge exchange, awareness raising, roundtable meetings, preparing training materials and presentations, etc
  • Collaboration with the broader ULSE team for the implementation of ULSE MoU collaboration program in the region.
  • Provides presentations, trainings and mentorship about UL standards and standardization to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supports ULSE’s participations and leadership at international and regional standards platforms such as ISO and IEC.
  • Participates or act as liaison in the standards development activities to support international and national standards development.
  • Conducts policy and analytical research relating to standards such as trade data analysis, country and regional regulation and policy analysis, use of UL standards and trends in the region, Sustainable Development Goals, WTO Technical Barrier to Trade, etc.
  • Demonstrates strong relationship building, interpersonal and leadership skills both internally and externally. Possesses ability to influence without authorization.
  • Demonstrates understanding of principles of standardization and its impacts to economic development, environmental protection and societal progression.
  • Demonstrates quality, timeliness, reliability, consistency, flexibility, and accountability for all assigned tasks.
  • Effective at working alone and making appropriate decisions independently based on knowledge and available information.
  • Performs other duties as directed to support ULSE international engagement strategy.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Four-year University degree. 
  • Minimum 5 years relevant working experience.
  • 2 -3 years’ experience in standards development, preferred.
  • Experience with international policy or international relations.
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English.
  • Able to work in highly cross-cultural environment.
