Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI), of Underwriters Laboratories Research Institutes, is recruiting for a Research Scientist I, under general direction, assists in gathering scientific information, operating analytical instrumentation, implementing measurement protocols, conducting research, analyzing data and quality measures, and preparing data summaries and written reports for the Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI), a UL Research Institute (ULRI).  The Research Scientist works under the supervision of other research scientists to ensure that all processes are accurate and technically sound.  Assists with the day-to-day laboratory/instrument operations and maintenance and documentation of protocols.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Conduct chromatographic and spectroscopic measurements supporting various research initiatives on environmental air pollution.
  • Support accurate analyses through calibration and maintenance of equipment, application of quality measures and management of sampling media.
  • Follow laboratory procedures and adhere to organizational safety and health requirements.
  • Support the development of scientific reports and publications based on research.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of chemistry, analytical chemistry and associated techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain science based academic and applied knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Basic data analysis skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Research Scientists and other team members in order to complete a project from start to finish.

Experience and Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or related field.

Minimum 2 years of directly related work experience.
